Joel Wood

Joel Wood, "Mikwanak Kamôsakinat" (One Who Picks Up Feathers), is a member of nine-time GRAMMY Nominated powwow and round dance drum group Northern Cree. In December 2020, Joel released his debut solo project, entitled Singing Is Healing. The album earned a Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award for Handdrum/Fiddle/Instrumental Album of the Year in 2021 and a JUNO Award nomination for Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year in 2022.

Joel's second album, entitled Mikwanak Kamôsakinat, which was recorded at the National Music Centre, earned him a second JUNO Award nomination in 2023. 

Joel also plays the Native American flute and competes as a grass dancer. Joel is alcohol & drug free and is an advocate for walking on the red road. He is a husband and is also a proud father of three girls and two dogs.
